The work starts from pictures of the early 1900s or pictures of women of the 40s: the subject is decontextualised in order to reach a dimension less directed towards the characteristics of the person portrayed and also to reveal an anonymity that distinguishes it only as a physical, human presence.
Within the large sized paintings, the figures are almost absorbed by the background, the landscape or geometric shapes.
Hence the “small universe” concept where the human being is only a temporary dweller of a physical and spiritual reality of which he is not fully aware.
The small sized paintings focus on countenances and capture their timelessness, therefore the human feeling is unchanging over time.
