2018 Combat Prize Finalist – G. Fattori Museum Group Exhibition, Livorno

Selected as finalist for the 2018 edition of the Combat Prize, Painting category, the group exhibition features the selected work Coppia / Couple – acrylic on canvas, 65x85cm, 2018, at the Giovanni Fattori Museum and Villa Mimbelli, Livorno, from June 23rd until July 14th 2018.

The exhibition presents to the public the 80 artists who have been shortlisted for the 9th edition of Combat Prize, with their artworks selected by a grand jury, among the 1200 works from 47 different countries, divided into 5 categories: Painting, Graphics, Photography, Sculpture/Installation and Video.

The Combat Prize was born with the purpose of investigating the most interesting ideas in international contemporary art. It shares the objective, which might be ambitious but certainly effective from a cultural viewpoint, of going to the front line to search for different trends in the international art world and to document at the same time the new artistic languages as they develop.

This contest represents a new kind of research model based on a cultural discourse which is free from any commercial constrictions. Through artistic research, it promotes a useful and non banal “comparison-clash”, a sort of cultural battle that is really vital and necessary in these uncertain times.

The catalogue, published by Sillabe publishing house, contains 120 pages, 160 illustrations and critical texts written by the Jury in Italian and English. Copies of the catalogue can be bought at the final exhibition, or online from the publisher at www.sillabe.it.

Selection held by: Walter Guadagnini (CAMERA director, Torino, curator of Fotografia Europea Festival, Reggio Emilia), Stefano Taddei (independent curator and art critic), Lorenzo Balbi (MAMbo director, Museo d’Arte Moderna, Bologna), Francesca Baboni (independent curator and art critic), Federica Chiocchetti (independent curator and art critic), Andrea Bruciati (Villa Adriana e Villa d’Este director, Tivoli, Roma).
